Planet Green’s Wa$ted: Sex and the City
Wednesday, April 22, 2009
Wa$ted is the Planet Green network reality show that evaluates the carbon footprint of not-so-eco-conscious Americans one recycling bin at a time. This episode features three roommates who vow to amend their energy-guzzling ways.
Kisha, Donna, Cindy and Becky live in an amazing loft space in trendy Green Point in Brooklyn. All four of them have disparate jobs—one works at a model agency, one is in finance, one is a flight attendant, and one works in advertising—and the four have intense, vibrant personalities. One thing, however, they share is a disastrous wasteful streak.
For this foursome, it is all about having fun, and worrying about the consequences later. They all work very hard, and play very hard, electing to spend their money on makeup, new clothes, and lots of take out. Let's not talk about the alcohol, since they love to party and the bins of wine and liquor bottles are not going to the recycling facility in the BASEMENT, instead they end up in an all-purpose black bag. Turns out 50% of their waste should have made it into the recycling bins but these ladies are just too precious to make the effort.
Even though they spend hundreds of dollars at Sam's Club, most of the food goes to waste because take out is easier than cooking. The take out containers pile up, and the good food they bought simply spoils. Now, in terms of cleaning—Cindy loves to clean, and has a ton of harmful chemicals (she loves bleaching everything), but on top of that—the foursome doesn't want to do dishes—so they've decided to just buy paper plates, red plastic cups, and disposable utensils (all of which ends up in the trash!).
Oh, these girls need help! From absurdly excessive cab rides to huge amounts of trash, there is nothing sexy about the waste they are producing.
Once Annabelle Gurwitch and Holter Graham, hosts of Planet Green's Wa$ted! come for a visit and tell the ladies the size of their household ecological footprint it was enough to spring them into action. Annabelle and Holter create an innovative eco-plan designed to save them cash and to bring their giant footprint down, by introducing them to a line of organic cleaning products and earth-friendly makeup. Who knew going green could be so in-vogue?
