In England they have Ascot, in France the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, and over here in the United States we kick things off with the beauty of our Triple Crown races, The Kentucky Derby. On May 2, we may not be able to head over to Churchill Downs  and hobnob with the Blue Bloods and Reality Stars, but who says we cant throw our own party ? What a fun way to celebrate a race with a rich African American history. Did you know the first Derby had 13 out of 15 riders who were African American? Also, that the first 28 Derby’s had a total of 15 African American jockeys that won. Here is a simple race day menu. Have a mint julep for the brothers who won’t be there.

Mini Kentucky Hot Browns
Benedictine Dip and Spread with Crudités and Canapé bread
Bourbon Pecan Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting
