AUSTIN (KXAN) -- On Wednesday, Gov. Greg Abbott said the state is "ready to swiftly respond with emergency resources" as severe weather is expected in Central Texas on Thursday, according to a news release from Abbott's office.A storm moving in overnight is bringing scattered rain, isolated thunderstorms, and a low-end tornado risk to parts of Central Texas on Thursday, according to the KXAN First Warning Weather Team. Retired Gustavus Adolphus College professor killed in St. Peter collision

A retired professor at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter was killed in a Monday automobile collision in the southern Minnesota community.Robert Gardner, 79, of St. Peter died in the 5:30 p.m. crash on U.S. 169, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.Gardner had taught in Gustavus’ theater and dance department since 1971, according to the St. Peter Herald. As a professor emeritus, he was honored in 2020 with the opening of the Rob and Judy Gardner Laboratory Theatre.According to the State Patrol, Gardner was a passenger in a Toyota Prius driven by Judith Gardner, 86, of St. Peter. She suffered life-threatening injuries.The Gardners’ car was northbound on Highway 169, turning left onto Washington Avenue and colliding with a Hyundai Sonata that was southbound on 169. Tow truck operator killed in Illinois served as volunteer firefighter

EAST CARONDELET, Ill. – The East Carondelet community is mourning the loss of a man known for his generosity. Wade Bivins, 57, was struck and killed on Interstate 255 Wednesday. He was a tow truck operator responding to a call for a vehicle that had trouble.“I never heard the man say no to anything and I don’t care what time of the day or night it was,” East Carondelet Mayor Herb Simmons said.Bivins was a volunteer firefighter with Prairie Du Pont Fire Department. He served on the East Carondelet Emergency Services Disaster Agency and even volunteered to play Santa Claus for community Christmas celebrations.Simmons and other community members gathered on Wednesday to mourn the loss. St. Louis begins tracking inmate overdoses after avoiding questions

LOUIS – There is a major policy change at the St. Louis City Justice Center, something the city confirmed the day before a FOX Files investigation into overdoses at the jail.On Oct. 26, the FOX Files asked the St. Louis Department of Public Safety (DPS) how many inmates overdosed and the number of people who died while in jail.A spokesman for DPS turned over in-custody death numbers but did not share how many inmates overdosed and survived.Days turned into weeks, but DPS never shared the statistics, despite multiple follow-up emails.DPS notified the media of multiple medical emergencies that happened on Nov. 3, but there was no mention of drugs being involved.On Nov. 20, more than three weeks after our original request, the FOX Files requested an interview with St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones or Corrections Commissioner Jennifer Clemmons-Abdullah about the city’s failure to share overdose numbers. Security plates reinstalled on Famous Barr building as city moves to use eminent domain

LOUIS – Big changes could mean a new beginning for the beloved Famous Barr building (the former Railway Exchange building) in downtown St. Louis.FOX 2 confirmed the building is being secured for a potential new owner and a new future.For a second time, a company began installing metal plates over the building's boarded-up windows on the ground floor.DAWGS Vacant Property Security of Chicago started putting up the metal plates a little more than a month ago but failed to consult the St. Louis Fire Department and had to remove the plates the next day. LOUIS – An attempted carjacking on Wednesday ended with one person receiving treatment for a gunshot wound.The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department website shows 104 reported carjackings citywide this year. Loved ones are mourning a Hollywood executive who was shot and killed by a homeless woman who had broken into his home.The victim Michael Latt, 33, was found shot Monday night in his Mid-Wilshire home on the 900 block of Alandele Avenue around 6 p.m.A woman, Jameelah Elena Michl, 36, was arrested at the scene as the suspected shooter, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.Latt was transported to a local hospital where he died a few hours later.His sudden death has left colleagues stunned and loved ones devastated. Some of Latt’s friends described him as a “social justice warrior.”Latt was born into an entertainment family and worked as a marketing agent for films. BART police searching for person who entered tracks, caused major delays

(KRON) -- BART service across the Transbay Tube was halted for more than an hour on Wednesday due to a person who entered the tracks. BART police are now searching for that person. BART released a surveillance image of the person Wednesday evening. Anyone who sees him is asked to call (510) 464-7040. The person entered the tracks at the Embarcadero station. BART police inspected the Transbay Tube before clearing trains to return to normal but did not say anything about what happened to the person on the tracks."We are very sorry for the service disruption this individual caused and we are looking to hold them accountable," BART said. BART trains were delayed from before 5 p.m. Wednesday to after 6:15 p.m. The SF Bay Ferry added extra boats to cross the bay due to the delay.
