CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Think you have a popular last name? A new study found most Americans have one of six surnames, almost regardless of where they live. In the study, Ancestry.com reviewed phone book listings from across the country to determine the three most popular last names in each state. The company found Smith is far and away the most common.In fact, Smith only failed to land among the top three surnames in just five states: California, Hawaii, Minnesota, New Mexico and North Dakota. Billboard to refund ticketholders for rained-out SXSW concert

AUSTIN (KXAN) — After rainy weather canceled Billboard's concert at South by Southwest on Thursday, the music company announced ticket buyers would be refunded. The March 16 concert was supposed to be the first night of Billboard's The State at SXSW series, which continued Friday night and will end Saturday. The events are held outdoors at the Moody Amphitheater. PREVIOUS: SXSW and Rodeo Austin prepare for weather "All tickets purchased for this concert through the Moody Amphitheater box office or Ticketmaster will be refunded," Billboard said Friday on Twitter. Gophers hire Dawn Plitzuweit as next women’s basketball coach

Just more than two weeks after Lindsay Whalen stepped down as basketball coach at her alma mater, Minnesota has hired her successor, Dawn Plitzuweit, who led South Dakota to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2022.The university and Plitzuweit have agreed to a six-year contract pending Board of Regents approval and the completion of a background check. A native of West Bend, Wis., she will be introduced at a news conference scheduled for Monday afternoon.“I am extremely excited,” Plitzuweit said in a statement.Plitzuweit became West Virginia’s head coach this season and led the Mountaineers to 19 victories and an NCAA tournament berth. $20,000 reward offered after woman with ties to Southern California kidnapped in Mexico

The FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information related to the kidnapping of 63-year-old U.S. citizen Maria del Carmen Lopez. Lopez, a dual citizen of the United States and Mexico, was abducted from her residence in Pueblo Nuevo in the Mexican state of Colima on Feb. 9 by several hooded men. The mother of seven and her husband have been living in Mexico for the last 10 years after raising their family in the Los Angeles area. One year after his wife died of a heart attack at last year’s L.A. Marathon, Ryan Paddock will be lacing up his shoes and running to honor her legacy. Trisha Paddock was running as part of a charity team that was raising money for the Asian American Drug Abuse Program at last year’s half marathon when she collapsed at the finish line and died of a heart attack shortly after. FREMONT — The Alameda County Coroner’s bureau on Friday identified a 20-year-old woman struck and killed by a car in January after an armed assailant allegedly left her and her friend stranded on an Interstate 880 center divider at night.Diamond Ki’ilani Kamehaiku-Sysco, of Fremont, was fatally struck around 10 p.m. Jan. 12 as she stood in the lefthand shoulder of southbound I-880 near the Dixon Landing Road exit.
