Dear Amy: I am an older woman, retired after a long career as a counselor.I am the oldest of five siblings. My sister is one year younger.She is very talented, creative and generous.However, my relationship with her can often be difficult due to her bipolar disorder.She has described herself “as mean as a snake” during her manic periods.She is medicated and has been seeing a psychiatrist for years.She lives with her husband who is a wonderful man who drinks to excess after he plays golf most days and does volunteer work.I think it’s how he manages.My sister has had conflicted relationships with all four of her children from time to time.We live on opposite coasts.There is one daughter in particular with whom she has the most problems. Russia launches air strike on Kyiv, city official says attack repelled

Russia launched a new wave of overnight air strikes on Kyiv, with officials at the Ukrainian capital saying that air defence systems downed more than 20 cruise missiles on their approach."All were shot down, there were no hits," Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv's military administration, said on the Telegram messaging app.Witnesses reported hearing several blasts that sounded like air defence systems while the city was under air raid alerts for more than four hours, starting soon after midnight on Tuesday morning (6 June).Falling debris hit road surfaces and damaged power lines to the trolley system in Kyiv's Desnianskyi district, the military said. The district, on the left bank of the Dnipro River is Kyiv's most populous.According to preliminary information, there were no casualties, the officials said.

A furious debate over how gender identity should be taught to children and protected in schools unfolded on Tuesday, June 6 at the night meeting of the Glendale Unified School District School Board.At 5 p.m. a crowd of more than 200 gathered outside GUSD headquarters. The crowd stood in two physically and ideologically divided camps with a row of Glendale police officers between them. The protest swelled in size and intensity and police set up physical barriers between the two sides and around the building’s entrances.Several police helicopters circled overhead. One group of Fed officials would like to pause their relentless campaign of rate increases after 10 straight hikes to allow time to look around and assess whether higher borrowing rates are slowing inflation.But a second group worries that inflation is still too high and thinks the Fed should continue hiking at least once or twice more — beginning next week. LONDON (AP) — Ivan Menezes, one of the most influential figures in the global drinks industry over the past few decades and who was widely admired for his commitment to diversity, has died following a short illness. He was 63. Menezes was until earlier this week chief executive of Diageo, the drinks giant that owns popular brands such as Johnnie Walker whisky, Smirnoff vodka and Guinness. In a statement Wednesday, Diageo confirmed Menezes’ death, two days after announcing that he was stepping down after developing complications while recovering from emergency surgery on an ulcer. Menezes was due to step down as chief executive at the end of the month after 10 years at the helm of the company, which has a market value on the London Stock Exchange of 75 billion pounds ($93 billion).
