(AP) — Another NASCAR playoff and another show of strength from Hendrick Motorsports.A week after drivers Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman missed out on the 16-team playoffs, the powerhouse organization made a formidable statement about their championship chances with Kyle Larson’s win in the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on Sunday night.Larson, the 2021 Cup Series champion, advances to the round of 12 no matter what happens in the next two first-round races at Kansas and Bristol. MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (AP) — Uruguay’s new coach Marcelo Bielsa left veteran strikers Edinson Cavani and Luis Suárez out of his squad Monday for the first two rounds of South American World Cup qualifying. Bielsa took the Uruguay job in May with the aim of rejuvenating the squad, and 30-year-old goalkeeper Sergio Rochet is the oldest player picked for the games against Chile in Montevideo on Friday and at Ecuador on Sept. 12. A 25-year-old Miami woman is now facing several charges after stealing an ambulance from the parking lot of HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital. The incident occurred on Aug. 30 while Marquisa Allen was seated outside the hospital in her hospital gown.According to The Port St. Lucie Police Department, as ambulance personnel were inside dropping off a patient, Allen seized the opportunity to steal the vehicle. Little did she know that the ambulance was equipped with a GPS tracker, allowing officers to determine her location and inform surrounding law enforcement agencies.Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) located the stolen ambulance stuck in traffic on the Turnpike. (CNN) — A suspected drunken driver accidentally called Nebraska law enforcement on himself, leading to his arrest.The man called 911 to report another driver who he thought was driving on the wrong side of the highway, according to a Facebook post from the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office. Two people detained in China for allegedly damaging Great Wall with excavator

(CNN) — Two people have been detained in China after allegedly damaging a section of the Great Wall in the northern Shanxi province with an excavator, according to state broadcaster CCTV.Authorities in Youyu County said they received a report on August 24 that a gap in the wall was created in Yangqianhe Township, CCTV reported.After an investigation, police found a 38-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman had used an excavator to breach the wall in order to create a shortcut to pass through, causing “irreversible” damage to the integrity and safety of that portion of the wall, the broadcaster said.Police said the investigation was ongoing.The area, known as the 32nd Great Wall, is one of the surviving complete walls and watch towers dated back to the Ming dynasty (1368-1644) and is listed as a provincial cultural relic site. The Great Wall was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
