AUSTIN (KXAN) — Auto-payment issues, double billing, incorrect statements and customer service runaround — those are just some of the complaints KXAN has received, by the hundreds, from Texas Department of Transportation toll road and TxTag users.KXAN has uncovered TxDOT toll system problems for nearly a decade. During that time, the state agency has repeatedly vowed improvement.In this latest investigative effort, KXAN dedicated more than two dozen journalists to hold TxDOT officials accountable, fight for public records, catalog hundreds of tips and complaints, and sift through thousands of pages of vendor contracts. Metro Transit breaks ground on the B Line from downtown St. Paul to Uptown Minneapolis

Metro Transit held a ceremonial groundbreaking on Monday for the B Line, a bus rapid transit route that will soon link Uptown in Minneapolis to the Union Depot transit hub in downtown St. Paul.Construction on stations and improvements east of Hiawatha Avenue are expected to get underway this spring, followed by stations west of Hiawatha Avenue a year from now. Service, which will largely replace the Route 21 corridor, the state’s busiest local bus route, is scheduled to roll out in late 2024.The goal is to improve travel times on the 11-mile corridor by up to 20% through bus-only lanes, transit signal priority, all-door boarding and advance or off-board fare payments.The groundbreaking, attended by U.S. Sen. Tina Smith and the St. Paul and Minneapolis mayors, among other dignitaries, was held at 2701 27th Ave. South in Minneapolis, a Lake Street stop served by the Route 21 and multiple bus routes located within walking distance of the Blue Line.

Teen dead after being trapped under sand at North Carolina beach

FRISCO, N.C. (WNCT) — A 17-year-old boy died Saturday after being trapped under several feet of sand at a beach in Frisco, North Carolina, according to the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Family and friends were looking for the teen, who was only identified as being from Chesapeake, Virginia, and found him buried under several feet of sand. Officials said law enforcement rangers responded at around 2 p.m. to a 911 call of a male teen trapped in a hole. The hole was dug in a back-dune area behind the primary dune and could not be seen from the beachfront, a press release from the park explained. Fatal shooting near Grand and Gravois in Tower Grove South

LOUIS - Homicide detectives with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday afternoon in the Tower Grove South neighborhood.According to Sgt. Charles Wall, a police spokesman, the shooting happened prior to 1:50 p.m. in the 3600 block of South Grand Boulevard, near Gravois Avenue. O'FALLON, Ill. -- Police are sharing some good news about a group effort to save someone's life Sunday. A Good Samaritan and first responders helped restart someone's heart after a medical emergency on I-64.A couple was driving on the highway Sunday morning when they passed out. Their spouse, who was driving, pulled off of I-64 onto the shoulder of Green Mount Road. They called 911 to report that the victim was not conscious or breathing. Officers with the O’Fallon Police Department and Shiloh Police departments arrived and discovered the patient had no pulse.
