Taylor Swift, best supporting actor Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan, “Elvis” star Austin Butler, “Nope’s” Keke Palmer and The Weeknd have been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Mounties in Nanaimo, B.C., probe theft of German shepherd puppies

NANAIMO, B.C. — The RCMP are investigating the theft of 10 German shepherd puppies from a backyard kennel in Nanaimo, B.C. Police say the theft occurred around 3 a.m. Monday morning.Since then, five of the eight-week-old puppies have been recovered, but police say the rest are still missing. The owner told police that her daughter was awoken by a noise in the backyard and went out to their deck to investigate. She screamed when she saw several people, dressed in toques and hoodies, who ran from the scene carrying the puppies before escaping in a dark coloured SUV. Police say the owner has reached out to local animal care groups and the community, which has been very helpful in the RCMP investigation. This report by The Canadian Press was first published June 28, 2023. The Canadian Press

Tennessee State will become the first HBCU to add ice hockey

MONTREAL — Wildfires in northern Quebec continue to rage despite recent rainfall, and the coming days will bring a risk of lighting, which could spark more fires if strikes hit dry ground, Environment and Climate Change Canada says.The rain that fell earlier this week was insufficient to put out the fires, meteorologist Steven Flisfefer told reporters Wednesday.
