Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Rodion Amirov has died less than 2 years since being diagnosed with a brain tumor. He was 21.Agent Dan Milstein confirmed to The Associated Press that Amirov died Monday in Munich, Germany. The team said in February 2022 that Amirov had a brain tumor and would go to Germany for treatment, in the hopes of being able to resume his hockey career at some point.“From the moment he received the news, he refused to speak in the negative, determined to enjoy every day, facing it with the same positive attitude he showed during his hockey career,” Milstein said in a message posted on social media in English and Russian. “We will always remember his courage, his desire, his will, his smile — all of the great things about him.”Milstein also thanked the doctors who took care of Amirov, as well as the Maple Leafs and KHL’s Salavat Yulayev Ufa, who “did everything possible to help in any way.”The Maple Leafs said their organization was devastated by the news of ...

Authorities investigate serious crash in Prince George’s Co.; 911 caller reported car ‘firing shots’

Prince George’s County, Maryland, police have a suspect in custody who they say crashed outside Joint Base Andrews after reportedly firing shots at another car Sunday.One person was seriously hurt in the crash.At about 1:40 p.m. Sunday,  a driver called 911 said they were being followed on Suitland Road by a black BMW that was “firing shots” at them, according to authorities.Several minutes later, a Morningside police cruiser allegedly spotted a BMW that matched the description at the intersection of Suitland Road and Allentown Road. Police said the BMW lost control and careened into a car waiting to turn on Allentown Road. The driver of that car was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Two juveniles in the car were hurt as well but are expected to survive.Meanwhile, the driver of the BMW ran away on foot but was caught by Morningside Police, according to authorities. Federal officials are investigating an incident in which a private plane was told to abort its landing to avoid hitting a Southwest Airlines jet that was using the same runway to take off in the latest in a series of recent close calls between planes.The Federal Aviation Administration said Monday that it is investigating the incident, which happened Friday at San Diego International Airport.A Cessna Citation business jet was told to cut short its approach to landing and circle around because a Southwest plane was still on the runway, the FAA said. According to the agency’s preliminary review, an air traffic controller cleared the private jet to land and then told the Southwest pilots to taxi on to the same runway and wait for approval to take off.The private jet was able to pull up and circle before landing safely.
