Tax deadline for Bay Area residents, businesses is in October, not on usual ‘tax day’

Preparing for some serious caffeinating and the usual tax-day sprint to file your returns? Relax — in 2023 you get six more months to procrastinate.That’s right: Residents and businesses throughout the Bay Area have until October 16 to file their 2022 state and federal individual and business tax returns.For most of the rest of the country, Tax Day is April 18. But in response to devastating storms this winter, the Internal Revenue Service and California’s Franchise Tax Board pushed back the deadline for filing returns — and making certain payments — for all nine Bay Area counties and most of the rest of the Golden State.And the extension applies to all residents and businesses in those eligible counties, not just those who were affected by the storms.

Former Stanford University employee arraigned on charges of lying about rapes that shook campus

A former Stanford University employee was arraigned Monday on charges that she repeatedly lied about being viciously raped as part of a revenge plot against a co-worker — fabricated claims that sparked widespread panic about a sexual predator stalking women across the campus.Jennifer Ann Gries, of Santa Clara, appeared solemn and did not speak Monday while making her first appearance in court on two felony counts of perjury and two misdemeanor counts of making a false crime report. DENVER (KDVR) -- Denver police are still working to learn what led up to a shooting that left one juvenile in critical but stable condition on 48th Place in Green Valley Ranch. "We did call 911 two or three times," one neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous stated Sunday. FOX31 and Channel 2 reached out to the owner of the home where DPD said a large gathering was happening. The owner of the home stated he had rented out the home short-term via Airbnb. “There were a lot of teenagers. I would say anywhere between 15 to 19 years old," the neighbor said. Green Valley Ranch violence spiked 50% in 2022 The homeowner also stated he is deciding if he will take the Airbnb listing down because he wants neighbors in the area to feel safe.“We started hearing gun shots and its turning normal now," the neighbor said.
