Mexico withdraws prison sentence against of who killed her rapist in self defense

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican prosecutors announced Saturday night that they are withdrawing a case against a woman who was sentenced to six years in prison for killing a rapist as he attacked her.In a ruling last week that touched off a public outcry, a court in Mexico State said that while it agreed 23-year-old Roxana Ruiz was raped in 2021, it found her guilty of homicide with “excessive use of legitimate defense.” It also ordered Ruiz to pay more than $16,000 in reparations to the family of her attacker.Feminist groups, which have supported Ruiz’s defense, angrily protested, saying the ruling was criminalizing survivors of sexual violence while protecting perpetrators in a country with high levels of gender-based violence and femicides. FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Thorleifur Úlfarsson scored late in the second half to help the Houston Dynamo earn a 1-1 draw with FC Dallas on Saturday night.Úlfarsson took a pass from Héctor Herrera in the 85th minute and found the net for the first time this season to earn the Dynamo (4-5-3) a point on the road.Úlfarsson’s goal was just the second conceded by Dallas (6-3-4) in its last 11 home matches. Dallas has not allowed multiple goals in its last 17 matches at home.Jáder Obrian scored his first goal of the season — unassisted in the 53rd minute — to put Dallas up 1-0.Houston is 0-9-5 in its last 16 road matches with Dallas in all competitions. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Gyasi Zardes scored the lone goal in the first minute of second-half stoppage time and Austin FC beat Toronto FC 1-0 on Saturday night in the first meeting between the teams.Zardes picked up his second goal of the season, scoring on a header off a rebound to help Austin (4-5-4) win back-to-back matches after an eight-match winless run was snapped in a 2-1 road win over the Seattle Sounders last time out.Brad Stuver did not have to make a save to earn his third clean sheet of the season for Austin. CHICAGO (AP) — Georgios Koutsias scored in the 89th minute to pull the short-handed Chicago Fire into a 3-3 draw with Atlanta United on Saturday night. Playing down a man after the 26th minute, the Fire (3-4-6) also benefited from an own-goal and Maren Haile-Selassie’s goal to open in the second half. Kidney donors racing to bring awareness to living donations

DENVER (KDVR) -- Runners are gearing up to make their mark in the 2023 Denver Colfax Marathon runs. One group is running for a special cause and they all have one thing in common -- they’re all kidney donors. Chris Sullivan, Andrea Coleman, Chelsea Barker and Hilary Baude are part of the 10 kidney donors running to show what can be achieved after you donate a kidney and bring awareness to living organ donation. “In 2020, I donated my left kidney to a stranger,” Sullivan said. “I feel no different. I do everything I did before I donated. It’s actually inspired me to do more.”  Will poor air quality impact Denver’s Colfax Marathon?
